Marcon Fit-Out has begun work on the full refurbishment of the Causeway Lounge at Belfast International Airport

The popular lounge will undergo a total transformation and when complete will be a world class facility.

The high end interior will provide an ideal place to relax before a flight and with an extensive food menu and full bar service the new lounge will be a welcome addition to Northern Ireland’s busiest airport.

The lounge will be rebranded as the “Causeway Lounge” and opens on 11th February 2016.

Paul Horscroft of Horscroft Design was commissioned by Belfast International Airport to design the new facility.

The Causeway Lounge occupies an enviable location above the main viewing platform affording terrific views of the main runways. The room has continuous panoramic full height glazing in a hexagonal arrangement and the new layout makes the most of the fabulous views.

An elegant circular bar will be installed to accommodate the new food and drink offer.  The new bar and reception counter will be finished in a mix of polished stone, hardwood joinery, mirror and tiling. Toilet facilities within the lounge have also been upgraded.

The new hardwood furniture will be a mix of sofas, lounge chairs and dining chairs finished in Analine leathers and warmer cloth upholsteries with quality contemporary stone and steel tables.

All of the bespoke joinery within the new lounge will be manufactured at Marcon’s specialist joinery workshop in Antrim.

Martin McErlean, Marcon Fit-Out comments “Our focus for the project is to deliver an exceptional interior fit-out to the complete satisfaction of Belfast International Airport.  Completed within a 3 week period, the modern, contemporary interior of the Causeway Lounge will be a great addition to the airport.”

Paul Horscroft, Horscroft Design adds “A key element of our design is the creation of a certain ambience within the Causeway Lounge.  Lighting is very important and is a mix of dimmable LED downlights complimented by floor and wall lamps, creating a soothing atmosphere suitable for work or simply relaxing.  The overall effect is one of restrained elegance.”

Belfast International Airport Commercial Services Manager, Deirdre Graffin, says the new-look Causeway Lounge is part of a continuous investment programme which will add considerably to airside passenger facilities.

Ms Graffin concludes: “Belfast International Airport is undertaking a number of important projects and the complete transformation of the Causeway Lounge is a major part of that work. The Causeway Lounge will be completed to the highest standard with first-class facilities for customers.

We’re committed to supporting local companies, which is why we’re delighted the contract was awarded to Marcon which has an enviable track-record in this highly competitive sector.

In a very real sense, we’re supporting local businesses and local jobs and will continue to do that as we implement a multi-million pound investment in the terminal building.”
