Smithwick’s Experience

Project Description:

Marcon were appointed as Principal contractor for the fit out of the new Smithwick’s Experience in Kilkenny.

The unique Smithwick’s Experience explores the brewing heritage of the Smithwick family and more than 300 years of brewing history.

Exciting new spaces provide visitors with a multi-sensory experience that immerses them in the story of Ireland’s oldest and most popular ale.

Works were completed within the flavour rooms, reception, and bar area, really enhancing the overall experience.

Scope of works internally included:

  • Bespoke Joinery including Feature display walls; Sensory Benches;
  • The feature bottle display was manufactured from birch plywood with white interior LED lighting to the box perimeter and cut out strips to lightbox behind each bottle
  • Graphic production and installation
  • Decoration throughout

Phase 2 – Outdoor Experience – The Barrel Yard

On arrival, visitors will see the striking new murals that represents the vibrant culture and rich history of Kilkenny. Highlights of the external space includes:

  • Timber overhead rain shelter, angled & tapered to draw the visitors towards the entrance.
  • Timber flush fitted walkway, with lighting fitted to reflect the overhead canopy
  • Timber benches positioned around the courtyard, each with integrated LED lighting around the base to “warm” up the courtyard. Speakers have been installed under benches with background sounds to add to the atmosphere and ambience.
  • Led lighting installed at higher level of the courtyard & connect from building to building, forming a latticework of lights at night
  • Outdoor bar with concrete cladding on bar front and counter tops with integrated LED lighting
